Three Roads Not Taken

Three streets diverged in my neighborhood

And bemused I was how to take them all,

Or which one was the better for my mood.

I looked down one as far as I could,

To where it ended at the shopping mall.

Then I gazed down another just as cool

But perhaps being the better option,

Because it led to a swimming pool,

That sparkled in the sun like a jewel,

With bikinied girls in suntan lotion.

The third led to my high school then onward,

To wherever it is that schools take you

—Higher learning and scholarly reward?

But knowing my GPA and how bored

I’d been in class, I thought, “Not for you!”

I might regret it on some future day,

But it’s not likely in my genome

To trudge three blocks on a hot summer’s day.

Three streets diverged in my ‘hood, but they—

They called for oomph, so I—I just stayed home.
